Lawrence Transportation Systems Partners with National Non-Profit, Move For Hunger

ROANOKE, VALawrence Transportation Systems, the premiere moving and relocation services provider in the Roanoke area, has committed to fighting hunger in their community, partnering with the national hunger relief organization Move For Hunger. As part of their national network Lawrence Transportation Systems of Roanoke, joins Move For Hunger’s force of relocation companies throughout North America: to date, they have delivered nearly 6 million pounds of food to local food banks throughout North America. Food insecurity affects more than 150,000 people in southwest Virginia; more than 1 in 4 of children in the region go to bed hungry each night. Lawrence Transportation Systems, who services moving and relocation needs throughout Virginia, North Carolina and nationally, recognized the urgency of their neighbors’ needs and joined Move For Hunger to continue the fight against hunger and spread awareness of the growing need in Roanoke, Virginia, and across the United States.

When people move, they often throw out a good deal of “stuff.”  Unfortunately, much of this stuff is food that could be delivered to a family in need rather than just left behind. The crews of Lawrence Transportation Systems of Roanoke will now be collecting those food items from their customers and delivering them directly to the local food bank, Feeding America Southwest Virginia. The service is free to customers and turns every move into an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate, simply by donating the cans and non-perishables on moving day.

“We are thrilled to have Lawrence Transportation Systems of Roanoke join us in the fight against hunger,” says Adam Lowy, Founder and Executive Director of Move For Hunger. “With such devastating hunger statistics at both the local and national level, their efforts will provide crucial support to the food bank’s mission to feed the hungry.”

“We have been serving the Roanoke community since 1932, so as we realized how many of our neighbors were going hungry, we knew we had to do something,” explains Barry Holland of Lawrence Transportation Systems. “Move For Hunger gives us the opportunity to help our community in a meaningful way.”

With nearly 1 million food insecure people in Virginia, including more than 310,000 children, it has never been more important to come together to help neighbors who are less fortunate. Through the support of partners like Lawrence Transportation Services, Move For Hunger can continue to help the nearly 50 million Americans struggling to find their next meal.
